Jellies, Octopuses, and Sea Stars, Oh My!

The Alaska Summer Research Academy brings middle and high school students to UAF to complete two-week learning experiences in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.  This year, three of our graduate students, Charlotte Regula-Whitefield, Leah Sloan and Kyle Dilliplaine taught one of the modules: ”Jellies, Octopuses, and Sea Stars, Oh My!”  This module covered marine invertebrate zoology, including field and laboratory techniques commonly used in the marine sciences.  To give students hands-on
marine experience one week of the module was held at the UAF Seward Marine Center (Seward, AK), where students conducted their own laboratory experiments, as well as participating in activities such as beach transects, plankton tows, water sampling, and dissections.
